Diarrhea can, and chances are will come to every dog you ever have in your lifetime and is a very common type of illness to have but in most cases is nothing serious and is not a cause to worry.

Lots of things can cause diarrhea in your dog and although on most cases the vet need not be contacted if it persists or becomes uncontrollable by your dog then it may need a better examination and diagnosis to prescribe the correct medicine.

Diarrhea is more common in puppies due to their immune system not being as strong as a dog’s immune system yet but diarrhea in dogs is also very common. Situations which cause diarrhea can be anything from a change in surroundings, worms, or conccidia, to a virus or pest your dog has caught.

A change in diet or food may have triggered the illness and it should be looked into to stop it happening again, dogs are very vulnerable to changes and it can affect them in many ways. Being over excited or having stressful days along with other emotional changes may bring this problem.

It is always important to look after your dog well while they are suffering this illness, puppies and dogs will get dehydrated in these times and you need to make sure they have enough fluids to stop further illness.

While your dog has diarrhea they become weaker due to low body weight and not getting sufficient vitamins so their immune systems lower making it easier to catch other viruses and illnesses.

Keep a close eye on your dog when they have diarrhea and if you have fears of it being anything but a common diarrhea cause then seek a vet or professional for advice. There are plenty of advice leaflets and informational sheets around in pet shops and dog care specialist places, as long as you are aware of your dog’s problem and are aware of these facts you should be in good shape.

Dog comfort is a big issue for your dog and getting it wrong can cause your dog to be grumpy, aggravated more easily, and in a worse state of health than if they sleep in a more adequate place, but what is perfect sleeping conditions for your dog?

Much research has been done on the way dogs sleep and what they find more comfortable and where it is best for it to be, but in this article we will only cut out the uninteresting bits and give you the best requirements for your dog.

Your dog will sleep an average of 11-12 hours a day, and as they get older that number will increase more because older dogs need more time to regain their energy back. If your dog isn’t getting enough sleep it may be because you’re not doing one of the following requirements of a dogs sleeping comfort.

To begin, the chosen area needs to be well away from drafts and doorways which could cause drafts and cold air to circulate around your dog, if your dog is cold any muscle and joint pains they have will worsen and make it hard for your dog to sleep.

For padding, you should ensure a really soft space that will help to support the body fully. Use a cushion or lots of blankets to make the padding, to again help any aching joint problems and give maximum support and sleep comfort to your dog.

The last issue is the placing of your dogs bed, dogs need to be easily accessible for the family to care for them, but they don’t like to have their routines broken all the time so keeping the dog bed in the same place is essential to keep you dog happy, if the dog bed is always moved it will cause them to be uncomfortable in their new surroundings and be overly aware of unfamiliar noises.

This time of year can be a worrying and confusing one for your dog, occurrences like bonfire night don’t happen very often and that’s what makes it a lot scarier for your dog or puppy.

Dogs do not like unfamiliarity’s and all the flashes and sudden bangs can make your dog extremely scared and afraid of what is happening. Unfortunately there have been many cases of dog deaths on bonfire night over the last ten years so it’s a must to keep an eye on your dog at this time of the year and any other similar time such as New Years Eve.

Accidents and injuries happen on bonfire night because of dogs or puppies being loose outside and the unfamiliar sounds and flashes causing them to go into a panic and running away from home, running into roads, or getting stuck in tight spaces trying to hide from the noises.

Fortunately, there are rules and advice that can be followed to prevent times like these and keep your dog in safe hands. To begin you will need to stop your dog being out at night and keep them reassured indoors and away from their outdoor home if they have one. This should be done from one week before the event to one week after the event so no fireworks before or after will scare them into trouble.

Make sure all the doors are locked and shut, if your dog sees an opening they will go for it if they become scared. Try to make a small sheltered area for your dog where they feel protected and in control, and cuddles and calmly playing with your dog may help your dog be less nervous and take their mind off the situation.

If your dog does escape, be calm and positive with them wile trying to get them back inside as quickly as possible, if all these rules are followed then everything should go to plan and you will be able to relax on bonfire night and not have to worry about your pet.

Dog behavior is not to be perplexed with human behavior because their is absolutely differ from human behavior. Dog behavior is developed by a blend of aspects, it is not the simple abc or 123 that people supposed or believed. The frequent slip up is that people always thought dog behavior as can only be good or bad where in reality it is always both. Behavior problems are as normal with dogs as they are with human being.

Just like us human, where behavior can be shaped and replaced, dog behavior can be replaced by modification exercises. Behavior modification involve consideration, and adjustment of dog behavior through reward and punishment exercises carried out consistently which sometimes can last for weeks or months. The belief that you cannot train an old dog new tricks is definitely erroneous. Even though there is no guarantee that training will solve all dog behavioral challenges, they do establish a solid groundwork for solving just about all dog problem.

Understanding that dog behavior changes swiftly from time to time, regular training and consistency is therefore essential in shaping dogs behavior. Since dogs are not the same as human being who adapt their many behavioral characteristics from their ancestors, human have the mental abilities to self-alter their behavioral instinct with a better behavior by way of thinking which are not available with dogs. However since dog behavior are mainly shaped from where they live and who has owned them before, it is absolutely possible that the change of owner behavior and environment where the dog is living could change their behavior traits.

There you have it, once you understood the reason behind each of the dog behavior problems, then you can solve it by modification exercises, doesn’t matter if the behavior nuisances comes from separation anxiety, territorial aggression, health issues or lousy previous owners. These cause are as valid as the cause sometimes we as human being misbehave, like littering, throwing tantrums, and other behavior problems that we normally shunned in this civilized world.

For example, your dog might be misbehaving due to separation anxiety, and then you know how to train your dog to your absence by providing a safe toy and by increasing the absence of your company bit by bit. Whereas if your dog show aggression due to territorial defensiveness, then you can condition him to more public places so that your dog can be used to more people and show less aggression due to his territorial defensiveness.

For as long as you start your modification exercises with the right mindset that there is nothing unusual about your dog behavior problems, then you will have a much special affiliation with your dog. Beginning with this right mindset and attitude is the first thing you required to have in order to be a accountable dog owner.

Then again, to be more successful in training your dog, it is recommended that you know what kind or method to be used based on the reason behind the behavior problems and this is where knowledge is important. You should get a good Dog Training Manual that can help you determine the modification programs to be carried out.

At the end of the day dog training should comes with a fruitful and meaningful relationship between your dog and yourself. The energy spent on training your dog will definitely worth it. Do it right and do it well and you will reap the rewards.

There are quite a few types of dog breeders. The first type is someone who works hard to maintain the breed standard. Puppies that these breeders turn out will often be more high-priced than other puppies, but there are quite a few advantages to buying one. These breeders test their dogs for common hereditary diseases and they only breed their finest dogs, for the reason that they are breeding dogs to obtain a new generation of champions. This means that the ensuing puppies that are not show class are more often than not still quite nice.

The second type of dog breeder is frequently called a backyard breeder. These breeders seldom show dogs, and often have a litter of puppies since they want other people to have a dog just like theirs. Regrettably, hardly any backyard breeders test for diseases or recognize how to look for traits that match the breed standard.

The last type of dog breeder is often called a puppy mill breeder. These breeders have several different breeds of dogs and repeatedly breed their females until the dogs turn out to be run down and die. Puppies are often very poor examples of the breed and may perhaps have genetic health problems as well as diseases such as Kennel Cough.

Clearly you want to find a good dog breeder. Nevertheless, knowing the significance of finding a good dog breeder does not always make it easy to find one. To look for signs of good breeders ask friends and family, but you also need to ask the breeder the right questions and you should be able to tell if you have found a good quality breeder.

Take a look at how the breeder is advertising. Breeders who advertise in newspapers are not essentially unethical. Some of them love their dog breed, but do not worry about the show world. Nevertheless, be on your guard of an advertisement that lists puppies from five different dog breeds.

Ask the breeder to permit you to stop in and look at the puppies. If the breeder refuses and offers to bring the puppy or meets you outside with a portable pen full of puppies, it may be because of safety concerns. On the other hand, it could also indicate that the breeder’s kennel is unclean and the dogs are not cared for suitably.

Ask the breeder about a health guarantee. A few breeders vaccinate the puppies themselves, but there is a possibility they did not give the vaccinations accurately and that the puppies are still exposed to disease. Moreover, the puppies could have serious inherited defects, such as a severe heart murmur, that a preliminary health exam would have uncovered.

Get the name and phone number of the breeder’s veterinarian, and when you go home call the veterinarian to make sure that the breeder in fact did bring the puppies in. Now, you can happily and confidently buy your new puppy.

Your dog may be the best trained dog in the world, understand your commands perfectly, and you may think that your dog understands the roads and can cope with cars well, but there is always a chance your dog could get knocked over by a car and knowing what to do in this situation is vital.

As stated above, you may think your dog is well suited to roads and can avoid cars and know when and where to cross the road, but from a dogs perspective this is all guess work and learnt from previous situations and near misses. Even after many years of crossing roads and viewing cars, dogs can still get caught up in situations that are dangerous and harmful.

If your dog does become the target of a road accident there are certain rules that should be adhered to when arriving at the scene and these rules can be the basis of how much pain and how healthy your dog will be afterwards.

The first thing to do is not panic, if your dog is conscious and can sense you panicking then they will panic also which won’t help the situation. Common injuries of a dog being run over are cuts and bruises so there is a good chance your dog is fine.

Dogs should not be moved after a car incident and until you know and are sure of the injuries they have, should remain in the same place or moved using a few people and a sheet or blanket as a stretcher if totally necessary.

Always check their breathing, your dogs breathing may have stopped as a cause of the accident and will need respiration by holding the muzzle closed and breathing air through the nose. If there is any severe bleeding you will need to add pressure to stop the bleeding and then seek urgent medical treatment.

If you are not sure of the seriousness of the damages, then contact your vet and explain the conditions to get advice on how to deal with the situation properly.

Can SitStayFetch really put an end to the stress and annoyance of your dog’s behavioral problems? It seems everyone wants to have a well-behaved dog but it rarely works out that way. Most people can’t handle there beloved pets and professional trainers are expensive and time consuming. I’m going to cover just some of the material from this course to let you see if it’s really right for you and your pet.

The training covers how to fix dog behavioral problems with tips and secrets to use in everyday training and the best way to buy and select a new breed or puppy. When you first get your new dog or old one you have to set boundaries and let them know who is in charge. This is critical for your pet to understand the pack mentality. This simply is knowing who the pack leader in your house and who to follow.

The training in this program does not take long to work or master in fact it can be done in only minutes a day. But remember this is something that you will have to work at and practice to maintain. Dogs are like children and even if they are the best kids in the world, if you left them for a month they would be running wild. This course does actually go into detail on many different things such as the how to breakup dog fights and keep them from ever happening again.

Not only will this teach you how to control and handle your dog but you will also learn the psychology of them. Most people don’t understand that their dog doesn’t even know why you are trying to correct him. This can cause more stress and cause the animal to act out even worse. This is covered in detail on how to make him understand. You will be able to use these techniques so your dog only barks when you want him too.

Pets just like people can develop separation anxiety which can psychologically affect them. Obviously the main solution would be to hire someone to stay home with your pet but that isn’t very practical. You learn step by step techniques to put your pet at ease and look forward to you coming home instead of dreading when you leave.

In conclusion I believe for many people this could be exactly what they are looking for. But this is not a cure all; you must invest a little time each day with yourself and your best friend to implement the changes and training. Everyone I spoke with about this has had success in one form or another, I hope you do too.

When you are away on a trip, do you leave your pet at home? Are you gone for long periods during the day for work or play? If so, have you ever come home to find some of your things (couch, clothes, walls, etc) torn up and you just don’t know why? I mean, you left a plush dog toy, food, water, and even went as far as to leave the television or radio on. So, why did your pet act up? Well, maybe you just didn’t leave the right dog chew toy for your pooch to play with while you were away.

Finding interesting dog chew toys to keep your dog entertained or happy while you are away can be a challenge. But, it is not impossible. There are actually some great dog chew toys and plush dog toys that are on the market today that can help any pooch that is lonely or spends any time away from you. It all depends on the breed and the age of your pet as to which dog chew toy or plush dog toy is right to keep your “other” child happy.

If you have a puppy, a great option are the new plush dog toys that can be warmed in the microwave to impersonate the feel of their siblings. These plush dog toys are about the same size as a normal size puppy, and the warmth can help to soothe a puppy to sleep or to help keep him company while you are at work. There are also some other great plush dog toys that have a small blanket attached to the body for your pup to snuggle with when he is sleepy or lonely. Another great option to leave out for a puppy are the indestructible dog toys so your pup can play and have a good time, without tearing up anything!

If you have an older dog, you can also find great plush dog toys that will help your pooch to relax when you are away for long periods of time. These plush dog toys come in all sizes and can give your pet something to snuggle with when they are lonely or scared. Some dog experts even suggest spraying a squirt of your perfume or cologne on the plush dog toy so it will smell like you and help to relax your pet even more. Rope dog toys are also great playthings for your older pet while you are away, as it gives them something to play with, without tearing up your things.

Before you head out on your next trip, take some time to head to the local pet store and find a great dog chew toy and a snuggly, plush dog toy to help keep your pet company while you are away. If you truly put some time and effort into selecting the right plush dog toy for your pooch to snuggle while and the right tug dog toy for him to play with, you will come home to find your things intact and your pet happy.

When feeding your dog, think about the following:

- The size of your dog
- The daily activity level of your dog
- The life stage of your dog
- Any health conditions that your dog may have.

If you don’t take into account all of the above, you can be setting your dog up for a major crash that you could surely avoid by being smart and attentive to your dogs needs.

Too many dog owners care little about the foods they supply. They buy the cheaper brands, which have little nutrition. They feed their dog table scraps, which are poisonous to their dogs and they just don’t seem to care, either.

When your dog is fed all of these substandard foods, they are set up for all kinds of sickness. Your dog can become lethargic and lack energy. They can be listless and stop being frisky. You might think your dog is tired, so resting more when in fact your dog could be sick. It is so important that you feed your dog right if you want your dog to be healthy.

The size of your dog will determine greatly the amount of food that you should feed him. For proper feeding regulations the bag will list approximate amounts, however if you are an experienced dog owner you will find that these recommended portions are not always appropriate for your specific dog. The label on the bag is just a guide, a little more, or a little less will not hurt based on your opinion. Trust your judgment when reading the label and do what you decide is best.

Your dog will have individual needs. No two dogs are exactly the same.

Certain breeds of dog have specific nutritional requirements that must be met in their diet for them to live an optimum lifestyle. Knowing this, dog food manufacturers have started to produce breed specific dog foods. Royal Canin is the leader in this regard and have a great line of breed specific dog and cat food products on the market.

A high energy dog will need a high energy diet. Calorie rich food will benefit a dog that is highly active, for example a working dog, needs a high calorie diet, due to their active days assisting their masters to perform important daily tasks.

Choosing a dog food according to your dog’s stage of life is very important to your dog’s health. Your dog’s nutritional needs will very depending on his stage of life and depending on your dog’s size. Puppies need a high protein, high calorie diet. Adults need a balanced blend of all of the necessary elements, and senior dogs have specific food products with extra additives to take care of their special needs some of which being but not limited to joint maintenance, immune boosters, and ostio strengthening.

Regardless of what your dog’s special needs are there is a dog food that fits. Your job is to find the food that is the best for your dog.

Selecting the right pet for you and your family is an important decision. There are several hundred breeds of dogs from around the world so your choices are virtually limitless.

The American Kennel Club categorized the different breeds by groups with each group having distinguishing characteristics that are shared by all the breeds in it. The Golden Retriever is in the Sporting Group.

The Sporting Group is made up of some of the oldest and most popular breeds. Many of the dogs in this category were bred for hunting although most people who own sporting dogs only keep them as family pets, rather than hunters. The hunting traits, however, create some of the most enjoyable aspects of owning a sporting dog. Goldens are natural retrievers, so you can enjoy them fetching a tennis ball for what seems like forever. Another trait is their outgoing personality, making sporting dogs enthusiastic and responsive partners.

The Golden Retriever was bred to be tough and strong. Don’t let the happy, silly face fool you. While any Golden will delight in lazing around the house or wrestling on the floor with your family, the breed is particularly adept in the field.

As puppies, Goldens are full of energy and can be especially mouthy. Make sure you direct your puppy’s need to chew to appropriate chew toys. Remember, puppies aren’t fussy and don’t discriminate. A chair leg works as well for them as a sterilized bone. Goldens are very trainable, athletic, and good-natured. They have a keen desire to please. You can find them performing with tails wagging and eyes shining in the obedience, agility, and fly ball arenas. They are also excellent with children.
The Golden Retriever is generally light yellow to deep golden honey in color. The coat tends to get a little deeper in color after the first year. They tend to be about twenty-four inches tall at the withers (shoulders), with females being slightly shorter. Their coat should be long and either flat or wavy. They’ll need to be brushed properly or their coat will form thick mats

So, if you are looking for a loyal companion that will be great with kids or adults, you should definitely find a local breeder and spend some time getting to know a Golden.
